In order to use the Media Player on a Windows N distribution, the shipping media feature pack was not sufficient. The missing part was that the Media extensions for the new Windows N versions are not available in the media feature pack, but need to be downloaded separately. In other words: If you want to use the Media Player feature, you need to download the appropriate version of the media features. V1809 contains the feature updates for DVD, CDs and audio discs. For Windows 10 N (and by extension, for Windows 10, Model 1809) the corresponding files have been released as the Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 Version 1809.

Windows 10 V1809 (October 2018 Update) is not the first version of Windows 10 with optional support for additional digital media formats and also MediaFeaturePack for the MediaPlayer in SBS 2016.

In prior versions, the MediaPlayer of each machine was in its own resource file with the media feature pack. It was linked by Windows Update and the Visual Studio plugin. It was not possible to redistribute a MediaPlayer with or without a MediaFeaturePack in the same install-package whether via Windows Update or via Visual Studio.
